Specimen Requirements
CSF specimens should be collected via lumbar puncture
Minimum Sample Volume - 200 μL of CSF specimen is required for testing.
Specimen Transport Temperature
Specimen must not be sent through the pneumatic tube system, must be hand carried to the laboratory.
Specimens must be processed and tested as soon as possible.
If transport is delayed the specimen may be stored for up to 24 hours at Room Temperature and up to 7 days refrigerated.
Ambient – 24 hours
Refrigerated – 7 days

Includes Escherichia coli K1, Haemophilus influenza, Listeria monocytogenes, Neisseria meningitides, Streptococcus agalactiae, Streptococcus pneumonia, Cytomegalovirus (CMV), Enterovirus, Human herpesvirus (HHV-6), Herpes simplex virus (HSV-1), Herpes simplex virus (HSV-2), Human parechovirus, Varicella-zoster virus (VZV) and Cryptococcus neoformans/gattii.
