Bronchial Wash or Bronchoalveolar Lavage - Testing on this specimen type was validated and its performance characteristics determined by Yuma Regional Medical Center Laboratory. Testing on this specimen type has not been cleared or approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. The FDA has determined that such clearance or approval is not necessary. This test is used for clinical purposes. It should not be regarded as investigational or for research. This laboratory is certified under the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendment of 1988 ("CLIA") as qualified to perform high complexity clinical testing and has validated this test in compliance with CLIA regulations.
Specimen Collection Instructions
NP Swab - Using the NP swab with the Green cap, swab both nares as deep into the nasal passages as possible without creating severe discomfort to the patient. Remove the cap from a tube of VTM (provided by the laboratory). Cut the wire shaft on the swab and ensure that the swab is immersed in the pink liquid at the bottom of the tube.
NP specimens not submitted in VTM will be rejected for testing
Bronchial Wash/BAL – collect per established procedure and submit specimen in a sterile aspirate trap.
