Bronchial Wash or Bronchoalveolar Lavage - Testing on this specimen type was validated and its performance characteristics determined by Yuma Regional Medical Center Laboratory. Testing on this specimen type has not been cleared or approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. The FDA has determined that such clearance or approval is not necessary. This test is used for clinical purposes. It should not be regarded as investigational or for research. This laboratory is certified under the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendment of 1988 ("CLIA") as qualified to perform high complexity clinical testing and has validated this test in compliance with CLIA regulations.
Specimen Collection Instructions
Sputum:
The patient should be seated or standing. 1st morning sputum specimens are preferred. The accuracy of the test is particularly dependent upon the adequacy of the sputum specimen submitted for testing. Sputum specimens submitted for testing will be examined for acceptability before testing. Sputum specimens may be tested either directly or the concentrate sediment from AFB Culture processing may also be tested.
Bronchial Wash or Bronchoalveolar Lavage:
Specimens are collected in Endoscopy or in ICU per established protocol. Bronchial wash or Bronchoalveolar lavage specimens will be concentrated prior to testing.
