Specimen Requirements
Liquid stool submitted in a sterile specimen container. Liquid stool specimens conform completely to the container in which they are submitted.
Formed stool submitted for testing will be rejected.
Patients must meet the following criteria before submitting a stool specimen for C. difficile/EPI PCR testing:
1. Must have had 3 or more liquid stools in a 24 hour period
2. Must not be on laxatives or lactulose.
Patient’s testing will only be performed once every 7 days regardless if test was positive or negative.
Specimen Transport Temperature
24 hours at room temperature (20-30ºC)
5 days refrigerated (2-8ºC)
30 days frozen (< -70ºC)

NAP1-O27-BI – Presumptive Negative

87493 X 2 – Clostridium difficile, toxin genes by nucleic acid (DNA)
